1 teen in hospital, another in custody after shooting in Highspire

HIGHSPIRE, Pa. (WHTM) - Highspire police say a 14-year-old is in custody after shooting a 17-year-old in the chest.

Officers were called to Market Street at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. They think the teenagers argued outside and the shooting happened inside a home.

Investigators said the two know each other but are not related.

Police say the 17-year-old was in fair condition at a hospital.

Juvenile charges were filed against the 14-year-old.

"We believe at this point one shot was fired, possibly from a revolver," said Highspire Officer Jeff Levon. "That weapon has been recovered."

Levon says there hasn't been a shooting in Highspire in at least five years.

"We're a small town, the typical small town borough," said Levon. "Yes, we have our crime, but a lot of it is not to this magnitude."

Many neighbors were shaken up, but police say there is no danger to the public.
