Pa. OKs semiautomatic shotguns for hunting big game

Hunters across Pennsylvania may use semiautomatic shotguns in most of the state’s firearms deer, bear and elk seasons in 2018-19.

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners on Tuesday gave unanimous approval to a regulatory change that allows semiautomatic centerfire shotguns that propel single-projectile ammunition, or slugs.

For elk, the shotgun must be 12-gauge or larger.

Pennsylvania previously allowed semiautomatic shotguns for deer and bear seasons only within special regulations areas near Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
