Nearby neighbor Elisha Blankenship says once her children got home from school, she had to hurry and get her family indoors.
“Right now, pretty much everybody around here and the neighbors were around here inside with the doors locked,” Blankenship said.
Officers say they were able to use tire strips and that’s when Johnson ran off and was armed. Authorities had to block off the roads of Routes 234 and 15 for hours.
“We had a very tight perimeter set up quickly so we had it all contained. Yes, it was getting dark but we do have the technology to assist us in the dark we have highly trained members of our SERT team it did end before dark,” Trooper Megan Ammerman said.
Neighbors say as the sun began to set; anxiety increased.
However, authorities found Johnson in the woods and that’s when officers say he shot himself.
