The Pennsylvania State Police are hosting the ‘Sunny Day Camp’ in Hershey this weekend. It’s an inclusive, fun, and interactive camp for children and adults with special needs.
The free camp happens throughout the state but this weekend it’s coming to Hershey. The camp is this Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at the State Police Academy in Hershey. It’s free with lunch and snacks included. To register for the camp click here.
The goal of the one-day free camp is to brighten up the lives of children and adults with special needs. It also helps build strong relationships between the State Police and the communities it serves.
The day includes demonstrations and activities from a Canine Unit, Bomb Squad, and Special Emergency Response Team. Participants will be able to play games and dance to a live DJ with law enforcement officers as well as explore a police helicopter and police cruiser.
Corporal Samantha Minnucci received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in 2016 for creating this camp and exemplifying initiative, leadership, innovation. Corporal Minnucci credits the inspiration for Sunny Day Camp to her brother Gabriel, who has special needs and enjoyed serving as her “assistant” at a previous Camp Cadet.
