‘Run with Ron’ aims to get kids moving, reading

Retired GMA Weekend anchor Ron Claiborne is lacing up his running shoes and heading to Harrisburg.

“Run with Ron” is a one-mile fun run and walk to raise money for the American Literacy Corporation. It’s a cause Claiborne is passionate about. He often travels to the Midstate to participate in the “500 Men Reading” event.

“You can meet me, talk to me, complain about anything you didn’t like about any stories I’ve done,” Claiborne said when interviewed Thursday via FaceTime.  “We can pose for photos. We can run together … whatever you want to do. I’ll be there before the — let’s not call it a race — before the fun run/walk and I’ll be there afterwards to meet people, talk to people. Also, beforehand, I’ll be reading a story to children.”

The event is Saturday, October 6 at 10 a.m. at the PSECU building on Elmerton Avenue in Harrisburg. With every adult registration, kids can run free.
