The Pennsylvania Senate has passed legislation to help generate donations for pediatric cancer research.

Senate Bill 1091 would allow people to donate $5 to the Pediatric Cancer Research Fund when they electronically renew a driver’s license, photo identification card or vehicle registration.

The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Scott Martin (R-Lancaster), said the funding would be used exclusively for research approved by the Pennsylvania Cancer Control, Prevention and Research Advisory Board.

The bill is awaiting a vote in the House of Representatives.
