Senate votes to expand access to epinephrine

The Pennsylvania Senate has approved legislation that would allow restaurants and amusement parks to store epinephrine injectors for food allergy emergencies.

House Bill 126 also would allow sports arenas, youth sports leagues, recreation camps, colleges, daycare centers, and places of employment to have the life-saving medicine on-hand.

Under current law, only schools are allowed to store injectors without a patient-specific prescription.

The bill does not require restaurants and other venues to have epinephrine injectors. Venues that choose to keep injectors would have to train employees who would administer the medication.

The legislation is awaiting concurrence in the House.
