State health officials warn the flu is still a top concern this season

The flu is still a top concern in the state. The virus sent many people to the hospital last year, and there’s a high number of cases this season.

So far, the state has seen 38,000 cases, 17,000 just in the past few weeks.

The flu is being blamed for 41 deaths, including a child.

That’s why the Department of Health says to never underestimate the flu.

“The flu naturally goes into spring and so we’re just kind of at the peak and so it will get better as we get into March and April, May,” said Dr. Rachel Levine, Secretary of the PA Dept. of Health.

Dr. Levine says it is not too late to get a flu shot if you haven’t gotten one yet.
