WAYNESBORO, Pa. (WHTM) - A 4-year-old girl who went missing and was then found after a six-hour search was taken from a Franklin County home by an unknown person, state police said.
The girl was found by a passerby around 10 a.m. Thursday. She was standing along the 14000 block of Harbaugh Church Road in Washington Township, about 2.5 miles from where she was taken, police said in an updated news release.
She was taken to Waynesboro Hospital for a medical evaluation and found to be in good health.
The search began immediately after her disappearance was reported to state police at 3:30 a.m. The report to police was that the girl was last seen in the 12000 block of Pen Mar Road around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
State police, National Guard members, seven fire departments, two search and rescue teams, two local police departments and other volunteers were involved in the search.
"I'm sure it's a huge relief for everyone involved because we all can relate. A lot of us have kids that age," Trooper Megan Frazer, a state police spokeswoman, said after the girl was found. "It's a huge relief for everybody."
"I was humbled by the people that just showed up at the drop of the hat," said Sarah Ginn, of the Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Company. "Everybody wanted to do something."
The State Police Major Case Team is investigating all leads. Anyone with information regarding the incident, or who traveled the 14000 block of Harbaugh Church Road before 10 a.m. should call state police in Chambersburg at 717-264-5161.
