Teacher charged with sexual assault heading to trial

A former East Hanover Elementary School teacher will be heading to trial for inappropriate contact with five girls between the ages 8 to 11.

Authorities say 39-year-old James Mentzer tried to hypnotize the girls, forcing them to read out loud to him privately, and asked them to call him “master.”

The sexual allegations were first reported in February, and the investigation was turned over to the Pennsylvania State Police.

Today, Mentzer’s charges were waived for court. He is charged with sexual contact or intercourse with a student, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, and 5 counts of corruption of minors.

A formal arraignment will be in November, where Mentzer will enter a plea to those charges.

Mentzer is out on $75,000 bail.
