Two United Methodist churches in Harrisburg will come together for the first time to form a new faith community.

Riverside United Methodist Church of Harrisburg and Twenty Ninth Street United Methodist Church voted back on March 17th to merge together and became “The Journey”.

“Beginnings start with a dream and bring people together.  They create a space that is where beautiful things can be formed,” says Pastor Kris Sledge.

Pastor Kris Sledge and Pastor Deb Port have been appointed as pastors to The Journey.

Pastor Sledge says, ” It was profound to look over our congregation and see a diverse community of faith, made of people of different ages, races here today.  Today was about being here together to start the first steps along this journey.”

The combined congregations began worshipping together on April 28th at their new location 750 South 29th street in Harrisburg.

“There is a sense that ‘now, the journey begins.  Our work as a church begins now.’ says Pastor Sledge.
