Wildfire risk increasing in Pennsylvania

With warmer days comes wildfire season.

The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says 85 percent of Pennsylvania’s wildfires happen in March, April, and May.

The Bureau of Forestry says fire prevention starts at home.

“We don’t see fires like they have in California around here but our fire behavior can be pretty extreme sometimes, and a lot of times what happens is people just go out, they start burning, they don’t really pay attention to how dry it is, how windy it is, never thought it would happen to them, and so they just burn without thinking about it,” said Matt Reed, DCNR’s chief of wildfire operations.
