Gov. Tom Wolf participated in a rally calling for more legislative action against gun violence.
The Moms Demand Action rally at the state Capitol on Monday was in support of legislation that would take guns away from people deemed by the courts as an extreme risk to themselves or others.
Wolf said the extreme risk protection orders would empower families and police to temporarily remove a person’s access to guns before they commit violence.
The governor pointed out that gun safety legislation he signed into law last year, Act 79 of 2018, will take effect on Wednesday.
Act 79 requires anyone served a final protection from abuse order or convicted of domestic violence to surrender their guns within 24 hours. State law previously allowed 60 days.
