Accomac Inn owners filing for bankruptcy; employees waiting for pay

Former employees of the Accomac Inn say they’re still waiting for their paychecks.

The landmark restaurant in Wrightsville abruptly closed its doors this week, and the owners now say they’ll file for bankruptcy and eventually retire in Arizona.

That came as a shock to dozens of employees who a week ago had no idea they’d be out of a job and a paycheck.

General manager Jace Hewitt said after flooding devastated the property, the staff wasn’t getting paid on time.

“The past paychecks we received, we actually had to hold a day, that sort of thing,” Hewitt said. “That’s when you started to think something.”

The Accomac Inn also had to cancel several wedding receptions that were booked months in advance. One groom told ABC27 News he paid $10,000 in advance, and the owners haven’t said anything to him about a refund.
