Crews battle overnight fire in Monaghan Township


Crews were called to a home on the 400 block of Mount Airy Road in Monaghan Township, York County early Monday morning for a house fire.

The house is in a neighborhood near Roundtop Mountain Resort. 

Three people, two adults, and one child were taken to a hospital by ambulance. Another person drove to a hospital.

Multiple dogs died from smoke inhalation. Firefighters were able to resuscitate one dog that was transported to an animal hospital.

The fire happened around 2 a.m. When firefighters arrived, one adult woman was standing on a porch roof and ready to jump. Firefighters were able to get her down safely.

Everyone who was in the house is expected to survive. 

Firefighters do not believe the smoke detectors in the home were working. Officials urge everyone to check their smoke detectors to make sure they’re working at least once a month. 

Officials the cause is still under investigation, but it is believed to be accidental.
