Hanover gyms plan fitness challenge to benefit veteran

The Hanover YMCA, CrossFit Hanover, and Roots for Boots is hosting a fitness challenge Saturday morning to benefit military veteran Jeremy Jacoby.

The 32-year-old was deployed in Iraq and Egypt.

The proceeds of the fundraiser at the South Y Sports and Wellness Complex will go toward an Action Trackchair. This will help Jacoby be able to play with his 3-year-old son.

Roots for Boots says Jacoby is partially paralyzed from the waist down from chemical exposure during his deployments.

Organizers say people of all ages and capabilities are welcome to get active and give back.

“We’re going to include tire flips,” said Dan Sell, the owner of CrossFit Hanover. “We’re going to include some sled drags, some medicine ball slams, and some burpees. Most fitness levels can participate in without any kind of issue whatsoever, but we can scale it for anybody that wants to do it. It’s just doing the right thing for the right person.”

It’s $20 to sign up.
