A York County man will serve up to 70 years in state prison for stabbing his 24-year-old neighbor to death in December 2017.
Raymond W. Heck, 60, pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree murder and related charges in the killing of Samantha Stein in Spring Grove.
He was sentenced to a prison term of 35 to 70 years.
Heck also pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, and possessing instruments of crime.
He told investigators he entered Stein’s home to steal property, inadvertently woke her, then cut her with a knife as they scuffled, according to the criminal complaint.
Three children under the age of 11 were in the home at the time but were not harmed.
Police said Heck befriended Stein months earlier and “hoped for something more than friendship.”
At some point, however, Stein took steps to limit or block communications with Heck, who persisted in contacting her, police said in the complaint.
