North Codorus faces penalty for leaving Southwestern Regional police

York

North Codorus Township may have to pay a steep penalty if it leaves the Southwestern Regional Police Department.

The police department said its board members are reviewing material to determine what the penalty will be. It said the penalty could be as much as one year’s payment, which is currently $992,000.

The township this week rejected a cost and service reduction plan and informed the police department it planned on leaving as of Dec. 31.

The department said its plan called for three fewer officers than its current staffing of 14, which would have created 25-percent cost savings for each municipality.
