A York County couple is accused of leaving their 5-month-old child alone in an unlocked vehicle while they were in a grocery store.
Donald E. Blackburn Jr., 30, and Kelsie L. Flowers, 22, of Dover Township, are charged with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child and a summary count of leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle.
Northern York County Regional Police said someone spotted the baby boy in the parking lot of the Weis Markets store at 2850 Carlisle Road around 7:40 p.m. Sunday. The witness told officers he was walking by the vehicle and saw the infant flailing its arms in the back seat.
The doors and windows were closed and no one else was in the vehicle. The vehicle was not running, and the outdoor temperature was 82 degrees at the time, police said
For the child’s safety, the witness opened the unlocked passenger side door to allow cooler air into the vehicle.
The infant was not harmed. He was released to a family member.
York County Children and Youth Services was advised of the incident, police said.
Blackburn and Flowers were released on $7,500 unsecured bail.
