Police in York County say someone gained access to a traffic board and typed in their own message that warned people of zombies.

Springettsbury Township police said they received a report of strange messages on the sign at East Market Street near Mount Zion Road. When officers responded Thursday afternoon, they found the board had been changed to read: “Zombies Ahead!! Run!!!”

Police shared a photo of the prank on their Facebook page and wrote, “We hope there was no public alarm today as there were no reports of zombies anywhere in Springettsbury Township.”

They said a second sign was changed, but the other message “is not G-rated.”

A PennDOT spokesman said the traffic board belongs to a contractor, and the control panel was not locked.
