Public funeral planned for fallen firefighter on Thursday

One of two York firefighters who died in the line of duty last week will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Zachary Anthony, 29, died Thursday while putting out hot spots in the former Weaver Organ and Piano building when the fourth floor collapsed beneath him.

Anthony had served in the city’s fire department since August of 2010.

A viewing and service is scheduled at the Freedom Valley Church in Gettysburg.

The arrangements are as follows:

Viewing: 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Service: 7:00 p.m. with cremation services

People wishing to pay their respects to Anthony may congregate at the intersection Philadelphia Street and North George Street. A procession will pass through Philadelphia Street between 11 a.m. and 11:35 a.m.

Drivers should be aware of intermittent road closures on West Philadelphia Street between 11 a.m. and noon.

Ivan Flanscha, 50, also died in the partial building collapse. His private funeral was held on Tuesday.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to support the firefighters’ families.
