Teen arrested for stealing fire truck, going on joyride

A 15-year-old boy who was once a junior firefighter with the Strinestown Community Fire Department was arrested for stealing a fire truck from the station early Sunday.

Northern York County Regional police said surveillance video shows the teen used a Ford Explorer, stolen from the Youth Development Center, to push in a garage door at the fire station. He then put on firefighting gear and left the building in Rescue 26 around 1:20 a.m.

Police said the teen went on a joyride, with lights and sirens, in the central and eastern parts of York County. He eventually became stuck in a field off of Freysville Road in Hellam Township and fled, still wearing some of the firefighter gear.

Fire department officials were able to identify the teen. He was taken into custody in the afternoon and returned to the Youth Development Center.
