York County fire company’s truck, equipment stolen; suspect goes on joyride

York

A suspect stole a fire truck and a set of firefighter gear and went on a joyride around parts of York County, according to the chief of the Strinestown Community Fire Company.

The suspect was able to break into the station along the Susquehanna Trail just after midnight Sunday.

Chief H.O. “Frosty” Wertz said the truck was spotted with the lights and sirens on, on Route 30 near Columbia and in York City. The truck was found stuck in a muddy area in a mobile home park on Frysville Road in Hellam Township.

The body of the truck was not damaged but it will need to be detailed.

Wertz said the helmet was found in the truck. A turncoat was found in a neighbors yard. A pair of firefighter pants and boots are still missing.

The station has surveillance cameras and was able to record footage of the suspect. It was handed over to police.

Northern York County Regional Police are investigating. They have not announced any arrests.
