More than two years after the groundbreaking for a new hospital in York County, the facility is taking shape.
UPMC Pinnacle Memorial in West Manchester Township is still a work in progress, but when completed, it will be a big turnaround from the current hospital on South Belmont Street.
“It’s a great opportunity for the community. We’re bringing state of the art technology, private patient rooms, all new imaging equipment, everything that a patient could possibly ask for,” said Paul Toburen, senior vice president of support operations.
UPMC Pinnacle Memorial will offer services that its current facility does not, including a specialty care nursery, open heart surgery, and treatment for patients in need of long-term care.
“We believe that anytime there is competition and choice – in any field but mainly healthcare- it’s been proven to help lower costs and improve quality overall,” said Sally Dixon, senior vice president of community and philanthropy.
The new hospital will have an emphasis on natural lighting, indoor gardens, and artwork to address anxiety and mental wellness for patients and staff.
The hospital is expected to open in August 2019.
