York expanding paid leave to help domestic violence victims

York

York City Council will vote to expand its sick family leave policy Tuesday night.

The expansion known as “safe time” is time off used to deal with issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and similar concerns.

“I strongly believe that an individual seeking safety and security for themselves and their families should not have to worry about losing their job versus saving their lives,” councilor Edquina Williams said.

Council says “safe time” would ensure all survivors have a legal right to time away from work to seek needed assistance.
