York retires badges of fallen firefighters

The badges of two York City firefighters were retired during an awards ceremony Thursday.

Ivan Flanscha and Zachary Anthony were killed in the line of duty on March 22. They were part of a crew putting out hotspots at the old Weaver Organ and Piano Company when it partially collapsed.

Flanscha’s number 46 badge and Anthony’s number 47 were retired at the York City Fire Department’s annual awards ceremony.

Flanscha, 50, was a 20-year veteran of the fire department. He had received many awards throughout his career including Firefighter of the Year.

Anthony, 29, had been with the fire department since August 2010.
