Lake Williams will be closed to fishing and boating for several months beginning Friday at dusk.
The York Water Company began drawing down the lake on Monday for a planned rehabilitation of the Lake Williams dam after the Labor Day weekend.
Fishing and boating will be prohibited until further notice. The boat launch will also be closed until the lake is refilled this fall or winter, the water company said.
The public is invited to help transfer fish from Lake Williams to Lake Redman on Saturday, July 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will help York Water and its licensed contractor with counting and transporting a permitted number of permitted species of fish from one lake to the other.
The bridge over Lake Williams will be closed starting Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will remain closed until the dam improvement projects are completed, which is expected to be at least one year.
Detour signs will be posted.
