HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A Boyertown man was arrested after police say he intentionally swerved at oncoming vehicles while driving the wrong way on Interstate 283 and led troopers on a pursuit on I-83 in Dauphin County.
Steven A. Polischeck, 57, is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding, reckless endangerment, and related counts.
State police said the incident began around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when Polischeck was erratically driving a red 2007 Chevrolet Silverado on Route 283 westbound in Londonderry Township, in Dauphin County.
Polischeck continued to I-283 southbound and traveled the wrong way, swerved at oncoming traffic, and struck a sedan before traveling northbound on I-83 South. When a trooper tried to stop him near the Union Deposit exit, he rammed the trooper’s cruiser head-on and began pushing it, police said in a news release.
The trooper fired his service weapon at the truck, and Polischeck turned around, fled south on I-83, then intentionally rammed a second state police cruiser. He then fled the wrong way up the Union Deposit ramp and headed west on Union Deposit Road toward Harrisburg, police said.
Polischeck was taken into custody when police ended the chase on South 25th Street.
Police said he hit multiple vehicles during the incident. The occupants sustained minor injuries, and one trooper also had minor injuries.
I-83 South was closed for four hours while police investigated.
