MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – Just like everywhere in America, the New York Yankees are one of the more popular baseball teams in the Midstate.

A local high school and Penn State graduate has a very big role with the Yankees, but he’s not a player. He’s a broadcaster who got his start in Middletown.

“I remember interviewing Coach Heiser, like that was my indoctrination into the business,” Sweeny Murti said. helped to launch the broadcasting career

The interview helped to launch Murti’s broadcasting career. He stopped at this old high school before it fell to the wrecking ball for a new building.

He broadcast Middletown basketball games on Middletown station WMSS from the gym.

Murti has been covering the Yankees for 16 seasons on America’s biggest sports radio station, WFAN in New York. He covers the team and is the post game radio host.

“This is a dream come true. I’d like to think once a day if I’m watching the game, I’m keeping score. I’d like to think I’m a 12-year-old kid who gets to do what he dreamed of,” Murti said.
