Midstate work group looking at ways to improve volunteer fire and EMS services

A work group in Cumberland County is looking at ways to improve volunteer fire and EMS services.

Specifically, they’re tackling challenges of declining recruitment and funding struggles.

Officials from Mount Holly Springs and South Middleton and Dickinson townships all want to keep the services afloat without any changes to their performance.

“There’s always a concern about a merger of companies. We all decided that would be no on the table. We’re just trying to make sure that the service that we’re responsible for providing is being done in the best way possible for everyone involved,” said Sean Shultz, deputy mayor of Carlisle.

The first workgroup meeting is set for March 6.
