The Conestoga Valley School District says mold has been found in several areas at Brownstown Elementary School.

The school year will be delayed, starting now on Thursday August 23rd.

The district says mold was discovered around the piping in three classrooms of the school, and underneath several desks throughout the building.

The district say the mold is similar to the type that is impacting Smoketown Elementary School.

Officials believe the mold is occurring in these two buildings because they both use an antiquated two-pipe HVAC system that could not keep up with the humidity and rain over the summer.

Conestoga Valley says these are the only two schools in the district that use this HVAC system, and mold has not been detected in any of the other CV buildings.

Brownstown and Smoketown will both start the school year on Thursday, August 23rd. All other buildings will open on Tuesday, August 21st.
