HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A state senator has introduced legislation to illegalize powdered alcohol in Pennsylvania.

Sen. Shirley Kitchen said her proposal, Senate Bill 588, would ban the sale and consumption of powdered alcohol, or palcohol, which produces an alcoholic beverage when mixed with water.

Kitchen said palcohol is marketed as a lighter and easier-to-transport alternative to liquid alcohol. She said it is easier to conceal and consume, and can be sprinkled over food or hidden in just about any container, which makes it too easy for children to abuse.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board voted last month to disallow the sale of powdered alcohol in the state’s wine and spirits stores.
