Father, 8-year-old son killed in fire, second child critically hurt

Pennsylvania

Fire officials in Delaware County say a man and an 8-year-old boy died in a fire that also critically hurt a 4-year-old girl.

Family members told WPVI that the man killed was 48-year-old Ralph Freeman. The 8-year-old boy killed was his son.

Chester fire department units called to the building in Chester at about 3 a.m. Sunday reported smoke coming from the second floor.

Commissioner William Rigby says firefighters pulled the two children from the building and took them to a hospital, where the eldest child died.

Rigby says Freeman’s body was later found at the other end of the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Rigby says the building used to house businesses on the first floor and apartments on the second but was supposed to have been vacant for some time.
