A volunteer fire company in Schuylkill County responded to a once-in-a-lifetime call this week.
A horse fell on ice in a field near Tamaqua and couldn’t get up on its own.
Members of the Hometown Volunteer Fire Company told WNEP-TV they put heavy rubber mats under the horse to give its hooves some traction.
When that didn’t work, they called a tow truck.
After more than two hours, and with help from around a dozen people, the horse got up on its feet and headed back into the stable.
