HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Pennsylvania’s Republican Party is calling for a criminal investigation into a Democratic state lawmaker who recorded himself berating a woman demonstrator outside an abortion clinic in Philadelphia.
Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Val DiGiorgio said the conduct displayed by Rep. Brian Sims “potentially violates a number of state and federal criminal statutes.”
Sims (D-Philadelphia) posted a video of the encounter on social media. He told viewers the woman had been confronting people who were walking into the Planned Parenthood health center.
“What you’re doing here is disgusting. This is wrong. You have no business being out here,” he told the woman. Sims called her protest “racist” and “shameful.”
The woman said little in response but told Sims to get his camera out of her face after about four minutes of confrontation. He told her no and suggested that protesters target her home.
DiGiorgio asked federal, state and local prosecutors to investigate the video and another one Sims recorded at the health center. In that video, Sims offered $100 to anyone who can identify three young women demonstrating at the health center.
Sims has admitted his actions were aggressive. In a video he posted Tuesday, he promised to “do better.”
