Police say a fourth person has died from two shooting incidents in State College late Thursday.
Steve Beachy, 19, died Friday afternoon at Mount Nittany Medical Center, police said.
Beachy is the son of 61-year-old Dean Beachy, of Millersburg, Ohio, who was shot and killed at P. J. Harrigan’s Bar & Grill on Atherton Street around 10:15 p.m. Thursday.
The shooter has been identified as 21-year-old Jordan Witmer, of Bellefonte.
Police said Witmer was seated at the bar with a 21-year-old woman who is either his current or former girlfriend. At some point, they said, Witmer walked to the other side of the bar where the Beachys were seated.
State College police Chief John Gardner said his department is still investigating what led Witmer to pull out a handgun and begin shooting, hitting both men and the woman, who was in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.
Witmer then fled the bar and crashed his vehicle near the State College YMCA. Police said he broke into a home on Tussey Lane by shooting and kicking a sliding glass door, then fatally shot 83-year-old George McCormick.
McCormick’s wife locked herself in a bedroom and called 911, police said. Officers arrived at the home and found Witmer dead in the living room from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Gardner said the investigation has revealed no relationship between Witmer and the McCormicks. Police believe Witmer randomly chose the couple’s house after crashing his vehicle.
WTAJ-TV reported that Dean Beachy was in State College for a livestock auction.
Gardner said there was no immediate threat to Penn State students.
“It was a State College incident. It was not a university incident,” Gardner said. “It was off-campus. It was far enough away from campus that there was no direct threat, we determined, to Penn State or its students.”
