Kavulich, state lawmaker from Scranton area, dies at 62

A four-term Democratic state representative from northeastern Pennsylvania has died.

Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich died overnight due to complications from heart surgery, his office said Tuesday. He was 62.

Kavulich was elected to the House in 2010. He served the 114th district in Lackawanna County.

He was uncontested in the November election.

Before joining politics, Kavulich worked in television as a sports anchor and reporter for WBRE-TV.

Survivors include his wife and three children.

His death followed that of six-term Democrat Rep. Mike O’Brien of Philadelphia, who died of a suspected heart attack early Monday.
