Penn State says two cases of mumps have been confirmed on the University Park campus.
The health services staff is identifying people who have been in close contact with the two confirmed cases, which are not believed to be related, and the state Health Department is monitoring the situation, the university said in a news release Monday.
Mumps is a highly infectious viral infection that causes swollen glands, headache, fever, and cold-like symptoms. People with mumps are considered infectious from two days before swelling begins through five days after the start of swelling.
The university said students who experience symptoms should schedule an appointment with University Health Services.
