Seasonal life jacket law now in effect

Pennsylvania

The seasonal life jacket law is now in effect until April 30.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission requires all boaters and paddlers to wear a life jacket while boating or at anchor on boats that are less than 16 feet in length, and on all canoes and kayaks.

This law applies to all Pennsylvania waters.

The commission says 80 percent of all boating fatalities in Pennsylvania are caused by people not wearing life jackets; a disproportionate amount takes place between the months of November and April.
