The song Pinball Wizard lives on, but the game has been on a bit of a hiatus. Pinball used to be the king of the arcade, now an arcade fits inside your phone. But despite technology, pinball is making a comeback right here in Harrisburg.
“It’s a way for me to relax,” says Nathan Eppley a league officer for the River City Harrisburg Pinball League. “As fast paced as it is and as many lights and sounds as there are it’s just nice to get away from reality for a little bit.”
Eppley helps run a Pinball league at River City Blues Club & Dart Room in Harrisburg. A group of 20 or so men and women meet once a week, for nine weeks to compete. There’s eight weeks of regular play and one week of finals.
“There are people that are very good and of course there’s a lot of competition involved but there’s people that are just doing it for fun and the thrill of competing and at the end of the day you’re playing against yourself,” says River City managing partner and league participant Jonas Hair.
The league is about to start up its spring season on March 30th for more information check out their website rivercitypinball.com
