LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A Lancaster man is facing arson charges after he admitted to setting a car on fire because he was bored.
Crews responded to to the fire Monday night along the 200-block of W. Orange Street.
According to authorities, a blue Plymouth Voyager minivan was on fire from its interior. The vehicle had no license plate and the sliding passenger door was opened.
A witness told officers that 23-year-old Brian Sanchez Padilla set the van on fire.
Police said Sanchez-Padilla was standing across from the vehicle and laughed as the vehicle burned.
Two officers approached Sanchez-Padilla and noticed a burn to his right arm and scorch marks on his clothing.
When an officer asked him why he started the fire, Sanchez-Padilla replied “because he was bored.”
Another witness told police they watched Sanchez-Padilla set the minivan on fire.
Sanchez-Padilla admitted to setting the fire by lighting papers inside the van with a lighter.
He was arrested and charged with one count of arson. He is being held for arraignment.
