Casey beats Barletta in Senate race

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey has won a third term.

Casey was running against Republican U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, a four-term congressman who became a nationally known figure in the fight against illegal immigration while mayor of Hazleton.

Barletta gave up his congressional seat to make his first run for U.S. Senate.

Casey called the election a victory for people who want a new direction in Washington. He promised to keep fighting for better healthcare and education.

Casey won his first six-year term against Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum in 2006.

Libertarian candidate Dale Kerns and Green Party candidate Neal Gale were also on the ballot.
