BOILING SPRINGS, Pa. (WHTM) – Renovations are underway at the landmark Allenberry Resort in Cumberland County.
Allenberry was closed and sold at auction in July. Now, crews work through 56 acres of the resort; all undergoing some sort of restoration or renovation.
New general manager Dan Johnson gave ABC27 an exclusive walk-through of the multi-million dollar renovation plans.
“This will be obviously a notable change for folks who have been here in the past,” Johnson said of the new lobby. “They will be coming into a slightly new entrance.”
All the things that make Allenberry a treasure in its Cumberland County community. The stone buildings with remnants of history remain.
“What had been hidden by maybe different renovations over time, or slabs of paint or wallpaper, we’re giving back that historic feel here,” Johnson said.
A neighbor and former employee, Shelva Walker, says she’s happy the new owners are maintaining most of it.
“The beauty when you drive in every day just takes my breath away,” she said. “It’s stunning.”
No plans are set for the theater and its murder mysteries, a concern of thousands that follow Allenberry’s progress on Facebook, but Johnson says the resort will start selling its famous sticky buns before the holidays.
Guests can start booking rooms and events for 2017 and beyond with a projected opening date in March or April.Get breaking news, weather and traffic on the go. Download the ABC27 News App and the ABC27 Weather App for your phone and tablet.
