HALLAM, Pa. (WHTM) – A senior dog was beaten to death during a break-in in York County. Police are searching for clues, and the owner is devastated by what happened to her pet.
Maizy was an 11-year-old Australian Shepherd. Her owner can’t get the images of the horror she saw in her living room out of her head.
“She made my heart full again,” Crystal Kreider said.
Kreider’s heart full was when she adopted Maizy two years ago. She was getting over the loss of her 16-year-old dog and fell in love with Maizy’s face. Her heart is now broken after what she saw in her Hellam Township home Tuesday afternoon.
“It was a bloodbath,” Kreider said. “It was that and more. Maizy’s teeth were laying all over the floor, and there was blood from one end of my living room to the other.”
“It was a very brutal scene, so the dog put up a fight,” said Ame Kessler, a humane society police officer.
Kreider says she took Maizy from her Friendship Avenue home to the emergency vet in York, but Maizy died during the car ride there.
“Maizy had been hit in the face,” Kreider said. “She died from blunt-force trauma to her face.”
Hellam Township Police and humane society police officers are currently processing evidence and trying to make sense of the heart-wrenching scene.
“Horrific. Maliciousness. Somebody that has absolutely no remorse for their actions,” Kessler said.
“I can’t imagine doing that to an animal, something so helpless and defenseless. It makes me sad because I promised Maizy she’d have a great life,” Kreider said.
Kreider is remembering Maizy’s funny personality, her “table surfing,” claiming the kitchen table as her bed and praying her precious dog’s killer is found.
“The last thing I can give Maizy is justice, and that’s what I’m going to do,” Kreider said.
