Rep. Lloyd Smucker proposes tax on electric cars

Pennsylvania Politics

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A Midstate Representative on Capitol Hill wants to tax electric cars.

Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) introduced a bill that would charge owners of electric cars two cents per mile. Plug-in hybrid owners would be charged one cent per mile.

That money would go to the highway trust fund which pays for road repairs. Right now it’s funded mostly by fuel taxes.
