HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania says he’d be supportive of a Donald Trump nominee to the Supreme Court and that giving Democrats control of the Senate would frustrate a Trump agenda.
Toomey spoke Thursday on WPHT-AM radio on Philadelphia. Toomey is locked in a close race with Democrat Katie McGinty. A McGinty victory could tip Senate control to Democrats.
Toomey hasn’t endorsed Trump for president, but he’s said previously that he was “encouraged” by Trump’s short list of would-be high court nominees.
Radio show host Chris Stigall told Toomey that he tells friends frustrated by Toomey’s refusal to endorse Trump that he believes Toomey would support a Trump court nominee.
Toomey responded that he’s said that “many times.” Toomey went on to say that Trump, as president, can’t accomplish anything with Democrats in power.Get breaking news, weather and traffic on the go. Download the ABC27 News App and the ABC27 Weather App for your phone and tablet.
