Sunday night on American Idol, local singer and songwriter, Jake Puliti took center stage in front of all three judges. Walking in calm, cool and collected, Jake chose to shock the judges with his rendition of “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. Puliti’s voice, making some judges break out in dance, Katy Perry, even doing the worm mid-audition. The three judges gave Jake, what they call a grand slam.

“You’re going to Hollywood,” said all three judges.

When Puliti isn’t impressing iconic judges, he spends most of his time at home.

“The majority of the time people think I do other things instead of singing, like playing baseball or whatever. No, I’m just a shoe salesman that likes to sing and hum tunes,” said Jake Puliti, American Idol contestant.

While working as a shoe salesman, Puliti never thought he would take on the Idol state, especially performing in front of his idol, Lionel Richie.

“That man is a living legend and he in my opinion is one of my top five favorite songwriters,” said Puliti.

Like all great artists, a quiet place to write and record is needed. For Puliti, that’s an old chicken coop.

“We got all sorts of memorabilia such as our little caricatures, there’s me my buddy Grant, Connor and Westin,” said Puliti.

With a golden ticket in hand, Puliti took his talents to Hollywood, which has already finished filming. Puliti can’t give away and spoilers, but says his time spent in Hollywood was life changing.

“It’s a learning experience, something to put on the new resume for my music and something to be reputable to carry me further into the music industry,” said Puliti.
