WASHINGTON (WHTM) — Legislation to impose harsher punishments on people who kill members of law enforcement has returned to the US capitol.

Pennsylvania Republican Senator Pat Toomey is among those re-introducing the Thin Blue Line Act. The bill would make killing a police officer or prison guard an aggravating factor in deciding whether the suspect should face the death penalty.

The bill has been brought up three times before.
