HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — We are halfway through the high school football regular season, and the playoff picture is beginning to take shape.
The PIAA District III power rankings will determine who makes the postseason, but stacking wins together is the main goal for all teams.
In Week Five, three teams had notable performances that could help their chances at postseason bids down the road.
If the 6A playoffs began this week, Cumberland Valley would earn the sixth seed. After a few years of sub-standard finishes, the Eagles took down Altoona for their third straight win. Cumberland Valley is now over the .500 mark with a 3-2 record.
Shippensburg is comfortably in the 5A postseason picture at the midway point, standing as one of just six Midstate teams with a perfect record (5-0). The Greyhounds are the fourth seed out of 14 that make the playoffs.
Northern York is also enjoying its stay near the top of its classification. The Polar Bears beat East Pennsboro 28-2 last Friday to advance to 3-1. Northern is currently ranked third in the 4A standings, well ahead of the 10th-place cutoff.
