The Hershey Bears have a new head coach.
Spencer Carbery will be introduced to media at a news conference at Giant Center on Wednesday.
Carbery has experience coaching both at the junior and professional levels. He spent the 2017-18 season as an assistant coach with the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins.
Carbery, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, also has ties to the Bears. He served as the head coach and director of hockey operations for Hershey’s ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays, from 2011-2016.
In his five seasons with the Stingrays, Carbery compiled a 207-115-38 record, making him the all-time winningest coach in South Carolina history.
He was the winner of the John Brophy Award as the ECHL’s coach of the year in 2014, and was the runner-up for the award in 2015 and 2016.
South Carolina qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of Carbery’s five seasons as head coach. He helped guide the Stingrays to a pair of division titles, and Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2015 and 2016.
